Trump and Clinton in the Center of New Scandals
New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman said on Tuesday he had opened an inquiry into the Donald J. Trump Foundation to ensure the Republican presidential nominee's charity was complying with state laws governing nonprofits.
Schneiderman, a supporter of Trump's Democratic rival in the presidential race, Hillary Clinton, sued the real estate mogul and his now defunct Trump University for fraud in 2013, seeking $40 million in restitution plus penalties and other costs, Reuters writes.
Schneiderman said his office had now brought Trump's charitable foundation under scrutiny.
"My interest in this issue really is in my capacity as regulator of nonprofits in New York state. And we have been concerned that the Trump Foundation may have engaged in some impropriety from that point of view," the elected Democratic official said.
Journalists in turn have already shown that the Trump Foundation was engaged in some level of "impropriety." Most notably, owing to the excellent investigative work of the Washington Post’s David Fahrenthold, Trump had to pay the IRS a $2,500 fine this year. Fahrenthold discovered the foundation donated $25,000 to a campaign group connected to Florida’s attorney general, though it’s illegal for nonprofits to make political contributions.
In response, Trump running mate Mike Pence told CNN that Trump has donated millions of dollars to charity.
"Anyone who knows anything about Donald Trump and his career knows that this is a man who's given away tens of millions of dollars to charitable causes throughout the course of his business life -he's been incredibly generous," Pence said.
Interestingly, Trump’s Democratic rival Hillary Clinton has also appeared in the huge scandal the other day. Among speculation that Clinton's health is failing, there's another theory gaining traction online: she might have a body double.
The Internet thinks the differences lie in the details: cheekbones, smooth versus wrinkled skin and body composition.
The only "evidence" of this theory is photographs taken on September 11, when Clinton ducked out of a 9/11 anniversary ceremony in New York because she felt "overheated" and is battling pneumonia, The USA Today posts.
However, Americans seem to be fed up with the lies and freuds of both candidates. The clash between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton is set to be really brutal. The latest opinion poll by Real Clear Politics updated on September 14, shows that Trump has 43.8% of the votes while Clinton enjoys 46%.
