Residents of Switzerland Allowed Intelligence Services to Listen to Their Phones

In a recent referendum residents of Switzerland supported the initiative to expand the powers of the intelligence services. According to preliminary data,  65.5 percent of voters voted in support of innovation.

Opponents of the initiative, who feared a violation of civil liberties, were unable to enlist the support of the majority in any of the 26 cantons or half-cantons. According to the law submitted for consideration of people, the authorities will have the right to listen to telephones, to monitor e-mails etc. All this, according to supporters of the initiative, will improve security in terms of the terrorist threat.
