Will Many Republicans Vote for Clinton?
The US elections are still on their way and not only Americans, but also almost the whole world is following to the developments. Who will become the next President of one of the global players? Will Democrats again win or for the sake of a change US citizens will give their votes to the Republican candidate? These are questions that many are interested in, but this time it is not so easy to make predictions. Even among parties everything is not so harmonious.
There are great disagreements among Republicans. One of the shocking and the most unusual steps in the US history was the announcement of House Speaker Paul Ryan that he will no longer defend Donald Trump. Many considered this announcement a vivid manifestation of the divisions that exist among the Republican Party, CNN reports.
"Paul Ryan should spend more time on balancing the budget, jobs and illegal immigration and not waste his time on fighting Republican nominee," Trump said in response.
Another Republican, former secretary of state Colin Powell, serving under U.S. President George W. Bush from 2001 to 2005 directly declared that he is supporting Democrat Hillary Clinton in the presidential race. Powell said Donald Trump "has no sense of shame," and is "a national disgrace" and "international pariah." He said that "the whole birther movement was racist" and complained that the media was providing Trump with oxygen to fuel his campaign, the Atlantic reports.
Earlier the Republican party’s 2012 nominee Mitt Romney, the former Florida governor and presidential candidate Jeb Bush, had also said he will not support Trump. George H.W. Bush’s wife, unlike her husband, who said would abstain, has said she would not vote for Trump. "I mean, unbelievable. I don't know how women can vote for someone who said what he said about Megyn Kelly," she said, cbsnews reports. It should be reminded that Trump had publicly offended journalist Kelly. Of course, the list of those Republicans not supporting Trump can be continued.
As for the Democrats, the picture is a bit different. Though no Democrat has declared that he/she is not going to support Clinton, the corruption scandal over her Foundation and later on the publications of her emails by WikiLeaks created a real turmoil, which, of course, will affect on the results of the elections. Hillary Clinton, however, decided that the best solution of the problem would be to apologize for having used a personal email address to conduct government business while serving as secretary of state.
How much all this will affect the results of the elections will become known in several hours, after the polls close on the West Coast. Clinton and Trump have already cast their votes.
