Turkey Carries out "Consistent" Work to Eliminate Potential Risks in the Country
Turkey’s opposition pro-Kurdish Peoples' Democratic Party returned to its normal work in the Turkish Parliament. The reason for such a decision, however, is not that this party does not have problems with the authorities anymore, but more probably, intends to continue its fight in the Parliament paying special attention to the process of Constitutional amendments. Another issue is how much it will succeed.
Turkey’s policy against Kurds has especially intensified after July 15 coup attempt. It became quite a good "reason" or "opportunity" for the Turkish authorities to introduce certain restrictions, close media that have any relation with Kurds and carry out arrests. With such actions Turkish authorities aim to "neutralize" more or les active Kurdish figures, who directly or indirectly can hinder the policy of Turkey against Kurds. As if for having links with PKK, for supporting them recently the mayors of Diyarbakir, Siirt, Tunceli, etc. were arrested. The two co-chairs of HDP and several members were also arrested. Moreover, the fight against Kurds has come out from the borders of the country. Under the pretext of fighting the terrorism Turkey today carries out actions against Kurds in Syria and Iraq.
This kind of "free" policy by Turkey can develop in at least two scenarios, both of which, however, can have negative effect on the Turkish society. The possibility that Turkey will still intensify its actions against Kurds and with all possible ways and means will be able to silence them, is quite high. This, of course, will blow up the myth of democratization process of Turkey. The second scenario is the consolidation and protests of Kurds, which, however, does not seem to threaten Turkey in the near future, as it is quite a long time the authorities of the country are carrying out "consistent" and multilateral activities to exclude all possible risks.
Some elements of Turkey’s today’s policy against Kurds reminds the style of Ottoman Turkey 101 years ago. Maybe it is the indifference of the international community, as well as the lack of concrete steps taken against all this that have created an atmosphere of impunity for the Turkish authorities, also "prompting" Erdogan several times voice about his wish to restore the territory of Ottoman Turkey "shaking and astonishing" the whole world.
