Lavrov: Russia Sees No Problems in Resuming Cargo Transportation to Armenia via Abkhazia

SouthFront

The Russian side sees no problems to resume cargo transportation to Armenia via Abkhazia, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said at a press conference underway in Sukhumi, Abkhazia, Panorama.am reports referring to EurAsia Daily.

According to the source, Lavrov underscored that there are even legal basis to restart the transit process.

"This can be based on the agreements reached between Russia and the World Trade Organization in 2011, when we jointed that organization. We are aware that our Armenian partners are interested in relaunching that route of cargo transportation. Today Abkhazia’s president announced that he does not mind the prospect of Abkhazia becoming a transit country, however it also depends on the positions of those states that will make part of the transit route," Lavrov noted.
