May Will Have to Make Concessions
The Prime Minister of the UK Theresa May, who on the eve of Brexit called for snap elections to strengthen her positions, failed. The Conservative party was not able to receive majority in the Parliament. Though many link the decrease of Conservative’s reputation with the terrorist attack that took place on the eve of the elections, these elections first of all refer to Brexit.
It is quite interesting that the labor party has considerably improved its position – a party, which did not use the motto "not to Brexit", but they are more prone to soft Brexit.
Thus, it can be said that the Britons showed that they are against hard Brexit and prefer sot Brexit.
Though Scotland and Northern Ireland, which have always been against Brexit, gave their votes to those political forces against Brexit, their choice was also interesting. The Scottish Independence Party, which promised to hold a referendum for Scotland to withdraw from Great Britain, yielded its positions in the elections. In fact, the Scottish people again came up against independence as well as against leaving the EU.
Despite the speech of the British PM and her promise to go ahead with Brexit, it can be assumed that her stance will considerably become softer. She would have to be more flexible in the negotiations with the EU, which Brussels also understands.
