Armenia and Germany Emphasize the Role of the Young Generation in Conflict Settlement

On November 2, the RA NA Vice President Arpine Hovhannisyan received the delegation led by the member of the German Bundestag Doris Barnett, official page of RA National Assembly reports.

The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Germany to the RA Bernhard Matthias Kiesler attended the meeting.

The goal of the delegation's visit to Armenia is the Armenian participants' choice in the International Parliamentary Scholarship programme for 2018.

Welcoming the guests, the RA NA Vice President underlined the effective cooperation of the legislative bodies of the two countries, the rapprochement of the inter-parliamentary relations and the importance of the activation of the mutual contacts. In terms of the development of the scientific-educational ties Arpine Hovhannisyan highly assessed the International Parliamentary Scholarship programme being sponsored by Bundestag and its continuity. The Vice President of the parliament touched upon the importance of implementing also joint programmes in other spheres by the support of Germany.

In the course of the meeting the peaceful settlement of the Krabakh conflict was referred to. In the settlement of the conflicts and the establishment of peace in the region the sides also emphasized the role of the young generation. In this context Arpine Hovhannisyan talked about the anti-Armenian policy being pursued at state level in Azerbaijan, which according to her, creates obstacles for the establishment of healthy contacts between the young people of the two countries.

Both parties also discussed issues concerning the women's involvement in the political process and regional problems.
