Trade Wars: When Trump Keeps His Promises but America Does Not Become Great Again
Although the United States postponed import duties on steel and aluminum for the EU, the decision to leave everything unchanged in the market until June 1, 2018 remains uncertain, leaving its influence on the industry.
Brussels has already stated that they are taking steps to respond to this US policy. Experts believe that restrictions may apply to the import of gas and shale products from the United States, and IT giants may also be threatened, especially when such a precedent has already happened. Microsoft, Apple, and even Google have been blamed for monopoly and the EU has taken some measures against them. It is also not ruled out that the EU will apply anti-measures against those US States that support Trump's policy. In that case, the influence of Washington's protective policies may be negative, and the Trump's electorate will receive not the additional jobs, but the contrary.
However, according to experts, the US-EU trade war will not take place, as Trump's main target is China, with its enormous opportunities for the production of not precious metals. Most likely, the US will negotiate with the EU over the coming weeks, not about the elimination of privileges, but on certain foreign trade privileges.
As for China, it should be noted that the probability of a commercial war here is much greater. The sides have already put some restrictions on each other and that tendency continues.
It should be recalled that in early April, the US Trade Representative issued a list of Chinese goods for which fees will be charged, in response to China's ''unfair trade''. The list consists of one thousand three hundred points of goods. Beijing, in its turn, said it is willing to respond to US action. In this case, taking into account China's potential, Trump's step may be harmful to the United States.
It is worth noting that these initiatives related to foreign trade are aimed at implementing another of Trump's pre-electoral campaign to conduct aggressive protectionist policies. That way, Trump tries to protect the local producers from the international competition, which will create new jobs.
Though, during his presidency, Trump is consistently fulfilling his pre-election promises, they still do not serve his pre-election slogan "Let's make America great again".
