PM, Yandex CEO Discuss Cooperation Prospects
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan received WCIT 2019 participant, Co-Founder and CEO of Yandex Group of Companies Arkady Volozh.
Pleased with Yandex Group of Companies CEO’s participation in the 23rd World IT Congress, Nikol Pashinyan noted that he had an effective discussion on possible joint projects with the Yandex leadership in St. Petersburg earlier this June, and that the meeting with Mr. Volozh came as an evidence of mutual willingness to expand cooperation.
“We are eager to see Yandex operate successfully in our country and make new investments, especially in the area of artificial intelligence that we discussed in St. Petersburg,” the Premier said.
The Co-Founder and CEO of Yandex Group of Companies thanked Prime Minister Pashinyan for the invitation to attend the conference, which is a good opportunity to exchange ideas on high-tech industry development and discuss a cooperation agenda with Armenia.
Arkady Volozh described as highly effective Yandex’s investments in Armenia, specifically the launch of new taxi services. He assured of their interest to implement new projects in the fields of mutual interest. He presented Yandex’s successful experience and statistics regarding the introduction of innovative technology-based taxi services without a driver.
Emphasizing that the Government of Armenia had declared the IT sector a priority area, Nikol Pashinyan said Armenia intends to become a technology hub, and the development of technologies, including services, is of great interest to our country.
The Prime Minister suggested initiating more substantive discussions in the format of a working group and gave appropriate instructions to the Ministry of High-Tech Industry concerning the steps to take ahead.
