Pashinyan doesn’t rule out considering extension of EU monitoring mission’s term
The EU’s 40-member monitoring mission will soon arrive to Armenia, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said at the Cabinet meeting, Armenpress reports.
He said that opinions are voiced in expert circles that the term of the mission should be either extended or made permanent. Pashinyan said he isn’t sure on the matter but didn’t rule out a deeper study of the issue if necessary.
The PM welcomed the launch of the EU civilian monitoring mission at the Armenia-Azerbaijan border.
''I am pleased to say for the record that our EU partners reacted and made decisions very quickly. The [advance] team is already in Armenia. The main group – the monitoring mission comprised of 40 members, will soon arrive in Armenia. The original agreement is that the monitoring mission will work for 2 months. There are opinions in our experts arena that the term must be extended or the monitoring mission should be made permanent. I am not sure about this, but in any case this is a topic that is under discussion in our society and expert circles. If we see such a possibility or necessity I don’t rule out that we will study the issue deeper,'' the PM said.
