Round-Table Discussion in Yerevan: "70 years of Great Victory: Lessons of the History"

On April 30,  the 2nd anniversary meeting of Eurasian Expert Club took place. On that occasion with the participation of the members of the club, also with invited guests and representatives of embassies of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan in the Republic of Armenia,  a round-table discussion on the topic "70 years of Great Victory: Lessons of the History and Modern Issues" was organised, dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War.

The organizers of the event, director of the "Noravank" Research and Educational Foundation, Gagik Harutyunyan and the chairman of the NGO "Integration and Development" Aram Safaryan welcomed the guests. Ambassador of Belarus in Armenia Stepan Suxorenko also came up with a welcoming speech. The adviser of the ambassador Andrey Ivanov read Russian ambassador's speech. 

Suxorenko mentioned that in the situation of the present information war it is very important to continuously work with young generation. "They want to take away our victory," - said Suxorenko and added that "young men must be ready to the "infections" that is being spread among our society".

Ambassador Ivan Volinkin in his welcoming speech mentioned that "it’s impossible to overestimate the value of the victory and the impact of the Soviet people". At the same time, he shared his concerns on rise of extremism and attempts to falsificate the history. He urged to discuss such questions in the society.

During the round-table discussion, director of  "Noravank" Research and Educational Foundation   Gagik Harutyunyan; doctor of technical sciences, professor Eduard Ghazaryan; director of the museum "Mother Armenia" Avag Harutyunyan; deputy head of Noravank Sergey Sargsyan; ex-Minister of Defense of Armenia Vagharshak Harutyunyan and the head of Union of Armenian veterans Mikael Stephanyan delivered speeches.

They spoke about information war, attempts of falsification of the history, and the importance of the memory and knowledge in the modern world.

"The society that loses its historical bases is the most liable to psychological and information influence," - Gagik Harutyunyan said. The army and military technique is not enough in the modern world, knowledge is even more important.

Vagharshak Harutyunyan also spoke about information wars and underlined that the Victory during World War II has changed the history and the world. "Now its important not to allow distortions of the history," - V. Harutyunyan said. "To win in the information war it’s important to know the history".

Avag Harutyunyan, director of the museum "Mother Armenia" in his speech spoke about the importance of the patriotic education and the role that  the museum plays.

The speakers also referred to the history of the Great Patriotic War and the impact of Armenian nation on this war. We were the forth nation by the number of the participants in the war. Eduard Ghazaryan and Mikael Stephanyan told about the participation of Armenian divisions in the war and their heroism. "There is no family in Armenia, that was not in this or that way involved in this war and the Vistory Day will always be a special holiday in Armenia," -  Ghazaryan said.

It was underlined that the Armenian army is now ready for any war,  army is not the only component that is important for the victory. In the situation of "no peace, no war" it is very important to remember the history, our victories and to be intent in the information war.
