A candidate for the US presidency, Republican Donald Trump said at a meeting with the editorial board of the Washington Post that the US spending on NATO should be sharply reduced, BBC reports.

NATO, according to Trump is costly for the US and the country can no longer afford it.

According to Trump, NATO is inefficient and the European allies are not doing enough, and this was clearly demonstrated with the example of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict. The US gets involved in something that could become a "third world war" with Russia, the billionaire said.
