International Reaction to Iveta's Performance at Eurovision 2016: Armenian Beyonce

The first semi-final of the "Eurovision -2016" international song contest took place yesterday in the Swedish capital of Stockholm. Armenia's representative Iveta Mukuchyan performed her song ''Love Wave'' under the 7th number and passed successfully to the Grand Final. Iveta raised a great interest among the European audience and there were different articles and comments published about our singer.

Immediately after the performance, for example, BBC Eurovision page posted Iveta's photo writing, ''Oooooo oooo ooooo oooo Armenia''.

The British Telegraph compared Iveta with the US TV star of Armenian origins, Kim Kardashian.

''The Kardashians are Armenian. Suddenly it all makes sense; Kim's not an attention-seeker, she's just in national dress. The Armenian entry has made it through to the final, which might well be in part to do with its glamorous singer, Iveta Mukuchyan, performing in very few clothes. We thought Kim Kardashian was an anomaly, but it seems her many skimpy outfits are the norm in her family's homeland''.

A number of other European media described Iveta as "Armenian Beyonce," as she is extremely hot and sexy. Many also found some common features between Iveta and another US singer Nicole Sherzinger.

International media also wrote about the flag of Artsakh that Iveta was holding and the ''flag ban'' policy of Eurovision Song Contest.

During the press conference after the 1st semi-final, a Swedish journalist asked our singer why the Armenian delegation was holding and displaying NKR flag.

"Do not forget that I am representing my country and my thoughts, my heart my feelings, and the whole emotions are with my motherland. All I want to call out, to spread is just peace on borders. Armenia wants peace, and that is why I wrote the song Lovewave, and all I want is to spread the lovewave - the reason I put the flag up and I really wanted people to concentrate on peace," Mukuchyan concluded, under thunderous applause.

Meanwhile, the Azerbaijani media got very nervous about our delegation's flag, and they even announced that Armenians should be punished for such a "provocation."

"Armenia cannot remain unpunished. Special sanctions should be used against this country, which will have very serious consequences," Haqqin.az writes.

However, it has been just recently been announced that this year Eurovision Song Contest has eased its flag policy. The organizers decided to allow national, regional and local flags.

The European Broadcasting Union has called for all participants to be more tolerant to each other, taking into account the non-political nature of the Eurovision Song Contest.

The "Eurovision" Grand Final will be held on Saturday, May 14. We wish good luck to our participant, talented Iveta Mukuchyan!
