BRICS Summit Results
The leaders of BRICS countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) at the end of their Summit in Goa, India, signed a declaration on October 16, where a number of important provisions were mentioned.
First of all, BRICS countries have called for a peaceful solution through dialogue to the situation in Syria, continuing the fight against terrorist groups like ISIL and "Jabhat an-Nusra".
They have proposed to adopt a comprehensive approach to combating terrorism and its financing, based on international law. BRICS leaders also called on the international community to accelerate the adoption of a comprehensive convention on terrorism in the UN. They stressed the importance of discussing the situation in Afghanistan.
BRICS leaders condemned unilateral economic sanctions and military invasion.
The sides also pledged to take steps for the recovery of the global economy, given the fact that it largely depends on instability in geopolitical conflicts, migration crisis, as well as the most recent factor, the results of the UK referendum.
Summing up the results of BRICS summit, Russian President Vladimir Putin among other issues also referred to post-Soviet countries, particularly the relations between the member countries of the Collective Security Treaty, as well as some issues that concerned to Karabakh conflict.
Noting that the organization was established in order to prevent external threats, Putin said:
"We have to somehow respond to what is happening around us, but we should also aspire that all the problems that came from the past are resolved peacefully and through compromise. In this context, we discussed the Karabakh conflict and other conflicts as well."
Putin also said that it is not important, if this or that country of the former union is a part of the CSTO or not. The important thing is that there are historically developed relations with all those countries that are much closer and deeper than the relationship between NATO member-states.
Putin noted that many more problems arise between NATO members. "The conflict between Turkey and Greece because of the Cyprus problem is a vivid example. Such problems are delayed for years, if not decades," concluded Russian President.
