Trump’s Inauguration and All Controversies

"Protection will lead to great prosperity and strength," "It is the right of all nations to put their own interests first," "When you open your heart to patriotism, there is no room for prejudice," "The time for empty talk is over," "We must think big and dream even bigger,"  those were the core phrases used in the inauguration speech of 45^th President of the United States, whom the US media often calls the most "unconventional president" in the US history.

The inauguration ceremony of a president is an important traditional event in the USA that demonstrates peaceful transfer of power from one president to another. So far inauguration ceremony of each president has been unique, which was the case also for the inauguration ceremony of Donald Trump. Nearly 900.000 people attend Trump’s inaugural ceremony to express their support to newly-elected US president, while not far away from the White House, hundreds of demonstrators gathered to express their protest to the newly elected president. The images from both sides portrayed completely different realities: the inauguration ceremony - a sign of unity (where representatives of both main parties, among them also Hillary Clinton and her husband, US former president Bill Clinton, were present) and the images of protestors (burning cars, confronting with the police (at least 217 people were arrested (Reuters reports).

If we turn to the content of the Trump’s inaugural speech and compare some theses in it with the theses expressed by him before the inauguration, we can also find some opposing things. First what refers to the US foreign policy: if previously Trump mainly opposed his European allies, for example, questioning the efficiency of NATO and German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s migration policy, in his inauguration speech, he spoke about the necessity of unity among the allies to struggle against terrorism. On the occasion he noted: "We will reinforce old alliances and form new ones -- and unite the civilized world against radical Islamic terrorism, which we will eradicate completely from the face of the Earth." What refers to US internal policy; here also one can notice some essential difference between the arguments expressed by Trump. As opposed to his previous statements, in his inauguration speech Trump stressed the unity of American people particularly noting "…whether we are black or brown or white, we all bleed the same red blood of patriots, we all enjoy the same glorious freedoms, and we all salute the same great American Flag."

However, there were also theses expressed by the US President that were directly in line with the ones expressed by him previously. In accordance with his protectionist policy he noted: "We must protect our borders from the ravages of other countries making our products, stealing our companies, and destroying our jobs. Protection will lead to great prosperity and strength." In general Trump’s speech completely breathed with the sense of patriotism with the logo motive "America and Americans first."

Despite all the exiting controversies, the existence of which proves unconventionality of the US  president (as rightly noted by the US media), Donald Trump is already US 45^th president. Despite of being underestimated by many both from within and abroad, he managed to win in the elections, for which, he surely deserves a credit. The time will show, who was right, who wrong…
