Which Country Will Trump First Visit As a President?

The US President Donald Trump's first foreign visit will be to Reykjavik, Iceland, where the summit on limiting nuclear weapons will be held, Sunday Times reports. There Trump will probably meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Trump said that he is interested in meeting with Russia's president and lifting the sanctions against Russia that were introduced by Barack Obama. Trump promised to lift them in case Moscow cooperates with the US on a number of issues, including the fight against terrorism.

It is not a secret that the US president seeks to improve relations with Russia, because according to him, only stupid people do not want to establish good relations between the two powerful countries.

Before leaving for Iceland, as reported by the Independent newspaper, Trump himself will receive some very important guests in Washington, in the face of British Prime Minister Theresa May.

May will leave for the White House this Friday, on January 27th.

Despite her obvious criticisms against Trump during 2016 election period, Theresa May now hopes that she can work efficiently with the newly elected president.

Officials on both sides are going to recreate the relationship that the US President Ronald Reagan and British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher used to have in the 1980s.

Given the enthusiasm that Trump has shown for Brexit congratulating Great Britain on leaving the EU, experts say it will not be difficult to find common grounds with May and quickly create dialogue.

Note also that the UK has always been among the countries to which the US presidents made their first official visits (Richard Nixon, Jimmy Carter).

In addition to their strategic ally and "little brother", American presidents always paid visits to their "neighbors", Canada and Mexico. For example, Obama's first official foreign trip was to Canada in February 2009. Presidents John F. Kennedy, George HW Bush, and Bill Clinton also made their first visits to Canada. Meanwhile, Gerald Ford, Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush made their trips to Mexico first.
