France Enters a New Political Stage
The composition of the new government of France is already known. Except the changes related to the four ministers, who resigned for various reasons, Prime Minister Eduard Philip's government did not undergo significant changes.
The Defense Minister of France became Florence Parly, who earlier was responsible for budget issues in the Ministry of Economy. The judge of the constitutional court of France Nicole Berube was appointed the Minister of Justice. Nathalie Loiseau, a French diplomat, was appointed European affairs minister. Jacques Mezar, who previously headed the Ministry of agricultural policy, became the Minister of territorial planning. And the agricultural office will be led by a former socialist Stephen Travers.
In total there are 30 officials in the French Government. The gender equality, like in the case of the previous one, is maintained – 15 men and 15 women.
Despite maintaining the gender equality in the new French government, the new president, Emanuele Macron, completely changed the political picture of the country. France entered a new political stage. What Macro was able to do in such a short period of time does not have its precedent. He perceives this quite well, too.
It should be reminded that Macron’s "La République en Marche" party was formed a year ago. The majority of the party members are newcomers in the political sphere. Macron’s assistants selected the candidates according to their CVs sent via email. The victory of Macron’s party became crucial in the modern history of France, as the old parties were driven into the background. One of the guarantors of this party’s success is perhaps the ideology it has adopted, according to which it is a party for advancement and is not a left-wing or right-wing one. For the first time after World War II the Republican and Socialist parties did not succeed to pass to the second round.
Many consider that Macron’s victory is connected with the fact that at the right moment he was at the right place. However, Macron's success is also conditioned by a number of other factors. Macron realized that the political situation in France, which many considered to be stagnated, would be a good opportunity to achieve his goals. Macron managed to convince the French that he was not a part of the current system. The victory of Macron and his party was also connected with the economic situation in the country, the unemployment rate, and the negative image of Macon's main rival, Marine Le Pen, during the presidential election. Many chose Macron just not to vote for Le Pen.
According to some experts, after the victory of the pro-European party, France will be more independent in the international arena.
It is worth mentioning that currently France faces a problem of weak opposition, which is undoubtedly the fault of the old parties, which failed to convince the public. The old parties, which have been in power for decades, now receive the results of their policies. In order to maintain the current attitude of the people towards those parties, Macron should give new opportunities to those French, who are now disappointed with the situation in the country.
