Iran and Armenia Enjoy Deeply-Rooted Ties of Friendship: Speaker of Iran's Majlis

On the margins of his official visit to Iran, RA Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan met today with Iranian Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani, the official website of the RA Prime Minister informs. 

Karen Karapetyan first conveyed warm greetings on behalf of RA NA Speaker Ara Babloyan, noting that Armenia has always prioritized the friendly relations with Iran, which continue to develop in an atmosphere of mutual understanding. The meting discussed issues related to regional developments and bilateral cooperation.

Ali Larijani considered it necessary to continue strengthening economic cooperation and stressed the need for expanding ties between the parliaments of the two countries. In this regard, the parties underscored the fact of developing relations between parliamentary friendship groups, mutual visits, relations between parliamentary committees and noted that the two legislatures’ cooperation might contribute to the further development of Armenian-Iranian relations.

"Iran and Armenia enjoy deeply-rooted ties of friendship, and our goal is to build on the ongoing political and economic cooperation. In the face of today’s critical situations, there is a need for more consultation with each other, and I would like to express my satisfaction with the current level of parliamentary cooperation. I am hopeful that your visit will give new impetus to bilateral relations," Mr. Larijani said.

Karen Karapetyan said he had had a very substantive meeting with the First Vice President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, noting that the Armenian side is firmly determined to implement the agreements reached, in particular, in the economic sphere, which will give new impetus to bilateral relations.

Ali Larijani, in turn, underscored that there is no limit or obstacle to the Armenian-Iranian economic cooperation, and the Iranian parliament is very positive about the expansion of relations. As he said, the bilateral economic agenda is very rich, and there are great opportunities for developing partnerships in both bilateral and multilateral formats.

While introducing the program of the free economic zone to be launched in Syunik, Karen Karapetyan stressed the importance of Iranian companies’ active involvement.

"I am convinced that we have vast opportunities to double and even triple our relations in the economic sphere,’ the Prime Minister of Armenia said.

Coming to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the interlocutors underlined that it should be settled exclusively through peaceful negotiations.
