Trump Cancels Obama's Decree to Close Guantanamo
President of the United States Donald Trump abolished the decree of his predecessor Barack Obama on the closure of Guantanamo special prison in Cuba on Tuesday. This is stated in the White House press release.
The document states, that United States retains the opportunity to send additional prisoners to the special prison, if necessary.
“The detention operations at the U.S. Naval Station Guantánamo Bay are legal, safe, humane, and conducted consistent with United States and international law,” the decree says.
“Within 90 days of the date of this order, the Secretary of Defense shall, in consultation with the Secretary of State, the Attorney General, the Secretary of Homeland Security, the Director of National Intelligence, and the heads of any other appropriate executive departments and agencies as determined by the Secretary of Defense, recommend policies to the President regarding the disposition of individuals captured in connection with an armed conflict, including policies governing transfer of individuals to U.S. Naval Station Guantánamo Bay, ” the document reads.
