Azerbaijan Has Launched a Campaign to Create a Positive Atmosphere Around the Elections
On the eve of snap presidential elections in Azerbaijan, the campaign to deceive both its own and the international community has intensified. The Azerbaijani media is already actively circulating materials that "show" the pre-election processes in Azerbaijan are taking place “in line with international standards”.
It is noteworthy that the representatives of a number of foreign non-governmental organizations also actively participate in this campaign. In their interviews with Azerbaijani media, they state that "there is no threat to free and democratic elections."
It is more than obvious that after the announcement of snap parliamentary elections, the Azerbaijani authorities are now pursuing a goal to secure a positive background for the elections, legitimize their results, by also involving non-Azerbaijanis.
Despite the efforts and the resources spent by the Azerbaijani authorities, in the reports of the international observers the issues related to appointing snap presidential elections will certainly be fixed. The Azerbaijani authorities have not been able to present legitimate grounds for snap elections. But the purpose was clear to everyone: bringing ahead the day of the elections to decrease the possible external interference in the election process, to avoid the wave of discontent among the society due to the severe socio-economic conditions, and not to allow the country's opposition to unite.
As to whether the observers had enough time to disclose the real grounds for conducting snap presidential elections, and to what extent these would be reflected in their reports, only time will show. One thing is clear - Aliev once again managed to create basis for him to remain in the post of the country's president.
