German MP Criticized for Receiving Money from Azerbaijan
Bundestag criticized deputy from Christian Democratic Union Karin Strenz for not reporting about additional expenses after the deadline for notifications expired, DW reports.
According to Der Tagesspiegel newspaper, the matter is about fund she received from a German firm from Azerbaijan. Strenz is also likely to face a fine.
Corruption speculations in relation to Karin Strenz appeared date back to the 2017 corruption scandal in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE). In particular, her name is mentioned in the report about bribes for lobbying Azerbaijan’s interests in Europe.
The document states that the key person involved in the corruption scandal, ex-deputy of the Bundestag, Eduard Lintner hired her to work through his consulting company Line M-Trade, which was funded by Baku and lobbied Azerbaijan’s interests.
Strenz said she did not know about the source of funding for the company. In 2018 she was expelled from the Bundestag delegation to the PACE.
