Number of appeals from Azerbaijan to ECHR is growing

The number of applications from Azerbaijan to the European Court of Human Rights is growing, as well as the number of pending applications.  This was reported by the head of the monitoring group of the ECHR decisions on Azerbaijan, lawyer Khalid Aghaliyev, Turan reports.
According to the statistics of the ECHR, 2,200 applications from Azerbaijan are pending today. This is more than in previous years.
Thus, 2,092 applications from Azerbaijan were pending by the end of 2021, 2,040 - by the end of 2020 and 1,950 applications in 2019.
According to this indicator, Azerbaijan ranks 8th among the countries of the Council of Europe.
In general, the number of appeals to the ECHR across Europe is increasing.
Citizens complain most of all about violations of the right to a fair trial.
Next are complaints about violations of the right to liberty of personal inviolability and, in particular, arbitrary arrests.
At the beginning of February this year, Chingiz Askerov, Azerbaijan's plenipotentiary representative at the ECHR, told the media that the ECHR had adopted over 200 decisions on Azerbaijan over the past 20 years.
