ICRC facilitates transfer of six patients from blockaded Artsakh to Armenia
The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) facilitated the transfer of 6 seriously-ill patients from blockaded Artsakh (Nagorno Karabakh) to Armenia for treatment, Armenpress reports.
Those taken to Armenia for treatment are cancer and heart-disease patients.
10 children are hospitalized in neonatal and intensive care at the Arevik clinic in Artsakh.
Another 9 patients, three of whom are in critical condition, are hospitalized in the Republican Medical Center in Artsakh.
The ICRC facilitated the transfer of a total of 76 patients during the blockade.
The blockade of Artsakh began on 12 December 2022 when Azerbaijan closed the Lachin corridor, the only road connecting Artsakh with Armenia. The blockade caused a humanitarian crisis. Shortages of essentials such as food, fuel and medicine prompted authorities to introduce a rationing system. Hospitals keep planned surgeries on hold and the ICRC has been facilitating the transfer of seriously-ill patients to Armenia for treatment.
