Italy’s president Giorgio Napolitano resigns
Italian 89 year old president Giorgio Napolitano resigned today. The main reason of his decision to leave presidential post before the end of its second seven-year presidential term is his advanced age and health problems.
Possible candidates to take over president’s role in Italy include former Prime Minister and former European Commission President Romano Prodi, as well as former Prime Minister Giuliano Amato.
