Georgians Demand Justice

Georgians demand from the authorities to hold to account those people, who during Saakashvili’s presidency have broken the law. With these demands thousands of citizens went into streets, repots dfwatch.net. The protesters gathered near Rustaveli metro, then walked down towards the old parliamentary building. As Кавказкый Узел informs, activist Irma Inashvili from NGO "Georgia’s Alliance of Patriots", who was the organizer of the demonstration, announced that at last everyone should understand what a democratic state means, which democratic institutions are and what the role of the opposition is.

"We have gathered near the parliament, as we want to show the government, how many unsatisfied people there are. They are the victims of "National Movement", but the government did not do anything to protect them," – said Inashvili. According to her the former president of Georgia, Saakashvili, who should have long been arrested, is now "freely walking around the world".

As Кавказкый Узел informs, the protesters called the authorities to meet their demands otherwise massive rallied would be held from March. During the demonstration Ia Metreveli - the mother of Buta Robakidze, who was killed in a police operation during Saakashvili presidency, called the authorities to restore justice.

It should be reminded that after "Georgian Dream" came into power, criminal proceedings started against several former politicians and officials, among them against the former president Saakashvili.

It seems as if this demonstration is the continuation of the wave that has started in Georgia. Recently the question of Zurab Vazagashvili’s death is discussed a lot. He was killed in 2006 during the police operation the aim of which was to arrest the members of a gang suspected for criminal activities and among them was Vazagashvili. Many claim that during this operation the police have abused their power and their actions have been illegal. Vazagashvili’s death, however, began to be a topic of hot discussion in Georgia, after his father - Yuri Vazagashvili was killed in an explosion that occurred at the grave of his son Zurab Vazagashvili. As a result several days ago the Interior Minister of Georgia, Alexander Chikaidze resigned, as he was accused of sponsoring the policemen who killed Vazagashvili. It is possible that all these will bring to a tense internal situation in Georgia, and the people’s confidence towards the government will decrease.
