Obama Vetoed a Republican Bill
Republican bill approving the Keystone XL oil pipeline was vetoed by the US President Barack Obama. The veto of Obama is explained by the fact that it is not clearly determined whether the project would be beneficial for the US or not, Reuters reports. "Through this bill, the United States Congress attempts to circumvent longstanding and proven processes for determining whether or not building and operating a cross-border pipeline serves the national interest," as Reuters informs, Obama wrote in his veto message.
As Dailymail.co.uk informs, the construction of the pipeline would connect Canada's tar sands with refineries on the Texas Gulf Coast that specialize in processing heavy crude oil. According to different estimations the realization of this project would not only create new jobs, but also would decrease US' dependence from Mideast energy sources.
