Case against Argentina President is Closed
The case against Argentina president Cristina Fernandez de Kircher and Minister of Foreign Affairs Hector Timerman is closed, BBC reports.
This is the decision of the country’s federal judge - Daniel Rafecas – who dismissed the case based on the lack of sufficient evidence testifying that the Argentina government was involved in a "plot" with Iranian state officials to conceal latter’s alleged involvement in 1994 bombing of AMIA Jewish center in Buenos Aires.
The case was opened based on the report by Alberto Nisman, special federal prosecutor who got assassinated on January 18, shortly after speaking up on the matter. So far, no clarifications regarding his death have been made. According to local media, the authorities reject any connection with Nisman’s death.
As "Armedia" reported earlier, Fernandez denied Nisman’s accusations arguing that he was misled by Antonio Stiuso, fired Argentine intelligence agent, with an aim to discredit the government. The discontent with country’s Intelligence Secretariat (SI) also resulted in recent restructuring of the institution. The Lower House of Argentina Congress voted in favor of the government-proposed bill on dissolving the existing intelligence agency and replacing it with a new federal one.
