Classes of Armenian Grabar
Starting from March 7 every Saturday at 6.00 p.m. in the church of St. Hovhannes in Yerevan free lessons for those who want to learn the ancient Armenian language, Grabar will be held. With the blessing of Archbishop Navasard Ktchoyan "Grabar Days" program was launched, the press service of Araratian Patriarchal Diocese reports.
Grabar is a classical Armenian language. It has been the written language of the Armenians since the 5th century till the 19th century, grabar.am reports. Initially Grabar was both a written and spoken language, but gradually it started to be used only in a written form. During the course of time the usage of Grabar decreased and now it is used only in the Church as a language of ceremonies and Pontifical writings.
Famous Armenian classical authors of the middle ages, among them Agathangelos, Koryoun, Movses Khorenatsi, Pavstos Bouzand, wrote their works in Grabar.
