Bombing of Tokyo: 70 Years Past
Exactly 70 years ago, more than 100,000 people were killed in a Tokyo air strike during the the Second World War. US forces firebombed Tokyo to force the Japanese to an early surrender in the dying months of World War II.
It was one of the deadliest attacks during Second World War; it was the deadliest conventional air raid ever, worse than Nagasaki and on par with Hiroshima.
