For the First Time the Guardian Will Have a Woman Editor-In-Chief

The editor-in-chief of the Guardian is appointed Katharine Viner. As the Guardian writes, in the 194-history of the newspaper this is the first time a woman would run it. Viner, who was the deputy editor of the Guardian and editor-in-chief of Guardian US, will replace Alan Rusbridger, who  has been the editor-in-chief of the Guardian for 20 years.

Viner has finished Ripon Grammar School and has graduated from Oxford University. She joined the Guardian in 1997. Previously she has been the editor of G2, deputy women’s editor, and editor of Weekend magazine.
