The British Artist Created a Sculpture of Knives Used in Crimes

truththeory.com

In the United Kingdom, knife violence increased an astonishing 14% between 2011 and 2016. To raise awareness about this conundrum — one, it seems, the government prefers to ignore, artist Alfie Radley spent two years creating a giant 26-foot-tall Knife Angel sculpture, the Truth Theory reports.

If you take a close look, you’ll see some of the 100,000 knives which were donated to the project to raise awareness about the high incidence of knife violence. Some of the knives were actually even used in violent crimes.

The angel is less of a sculpture and more of a monument. Radley seeks to show respect for the victims of knife violence, as well as acknowledge that there really is a problem in the UK.

Most of the knives were donated by British Ironwork Centre in Shropshire, which launched an amnesty program called “Save a Life, Surrender Your Knife.” The program allows people to anonymously donate their knives to a worthwhile cause.
