Police Issue Statement on US Embassy Statement, which Urged American Citizens to Be Vigilant when Visiting Armenia
The Police of Armenia has responded to the statement made by the US Embassy in Armenia.
The US Embassy had urged American citizens to be vigilant when visiting Armenia during the forthcoming Christmas and New Year holiday, News.am reports.
"Numerous international organizations have assessed Armenia and capital city Yerevan as safe, and the police and other law enforcement agencies have all the opportunities and means and are doing everything to confirm that assessment and to fully uphold public safety," the statement also reads. "And the Police [of Armenia] mandatorily pass to enhanced service, especially on holidays."
Earlier, the US Embassy in Yerevan warned the US citizens in Armenia against traditional increase in crimes of opportunity such as robberies, pick-pocketing, purse snatching, and residential break-ins during the holiday season.
''During the holiday season, there are also ongoing threats posed by transnational terrorist organizations and individuals inspired by extremist ideology throughout Europe. Extremists continue to focus on tourist locations such as shopping malls, airports, clubs, restaurants, places of worship, transportation hubs, and other soft targets frequented by Westerners,'' the statement says.
