In Sochi, Red Lines Remain Between US And Russia
Russian President Vladimir Putin and US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo have discussed Syria, Afghanistan, Libya, and Venezuela, Russian presidential aide Yury Ushakov said on Tuesday, as reported by TASS.
"They mostly focused on international issues, of course, in particular, as I wrote down, issues of strategic stability, issues of disarmament and non-proliferation [of weapons of mass destruction] and pressing regional issues," Ushakov said. "Among them are the situation around Syria, around North Korea, Afghanistan, Libya, Iran, Venezuela," he added.
Putin, who met with Pompeo after the news conference, said he hoped to "fully restore" ties between Moscow and Washington, and said he thought that Trump genuinely wanted to do the same.
Putin also praised Mueller's probe, which did not find evidence that Trump or his associates sought to conspire with Russian officials to sway the 2016 U.S. election, but also stopped short of clearing Trump of allegations he obstructed Mueller's work.
Putin called it "quite an objective investigation," according to rferl.org.
