First Case of Coronavirus in Berlin

After the first evidence of a coronavirus infection in Berlin, Health Senator Dilek Kalayci will provide details of the case on Monday, 2 March 2020 at 12 noon, berlin.de reports.

Late Sunday evening, the Senate Department for Health, Nursing and Equality had announced that the person is isolated and treated as an inpatient. The public health officer in charge had started to follow up on the contact persons. More details were not disclosed by the Senate Administration upon request.

In Germany, more than 130 infections with the virus Sars-CoV-2, which can cause the lung disease Covid-19, are known to date. With Berlin, ten German states have now reported infections. Results were expected on Monday by employees of the Brandenburg theme park Tropical Islands Resort. A man from North Rhine-Westphalia visited the site, where the pathogen was later detected.
