Moldova’s Presidential Election Is Heading For A Run-Off Between Maia Sandu And Igor Dodon

Moldova’s presidential election is heading for a run-off between Maia Sandu and Igor Dodon, after they emerged as the leading candidates from the first round of voting, FT reports.

With 99.9 per cent of votes counted, Ms Sandu, who briefly served as prime minister in a fragile coalition last year, was on course to win 36.1 per cent of the vote. Mr Dodon, who has held office since 2016, was on course to win 32.6 per cent.

Since no candidate reached 50 per cent, a second round between the top two candidates will be held on November 15. A run-off between Ms Sandu and Mr Dodon would be the second election in a row that they have faced each other in a second round.
