Vladimir Putin: the Events of 1915 Shook the Entire World

We sincerely sympathize with the Armenian people, who lived one of history's most awful tragedies. The President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin said in Tsitsernakaberd Memorial Complex.

"One and a half million people were killed and more than 600 thousand people were displaced. The events of 1915 shook the entire world. Millions of people found refuge in Russia and they were saved. It was the Russian diplomacy that reached international recognition of the atrocities committed against the Armenian nation. Russia, France and Britain called it a crime against humanity... In hundreds of Russian cities more than 2 thousand events of commemoration will be held, which will be attended by representatives of the Armenian community, the number of which reaches to 3 million. Russia's position has always been consistent. We have always considered that the mass slaughter of people cannot be justified," - Putin said, adding that the international community must do everything for such tragedies not to happen again.

According to him today in a number of regions in the world neo-fascism, nationalism, xenophobia have risen. "We have to ask, why all this is happening," - he said.
