Azerbaijan Decided to Have Its Own "Wall of China"

In recent years, there has been a number of cases when a country decided to build a wall on its border with neighboring county, with which it had a complicated relations. In May, for instance, Kiev announced its intention to build a wall along its border with Russia in order to ensure the country's security. Earlier this month in Budapest, the Prime-Minister of Hungary declared that he was going to build a wall on the Hungarian-Serbian border to prevent the illegal entry of migrants from Serbia.

However, the tendency of building walls on the borders with the neighbors is not a new one and is not always justified. Great Wall of China or the fallen Berlin Wall are the vivid proofs to this.

And now, as it turned out, the official Baku decided to keep up with the international practice.

As haqqin.az reports, a part of the Tartar villages Yukhary Gapanli and Yukhary Garadagli which are near the positions of the Armenian armed units, will soon be walled off. The wall will be built next to the several houses that are in particular dangerous area. The height of the fences will correspond the height of the rooftops.

In Azerbaijan, the construction of the wall "in order to protect people from the Armenian military" has been discussed for a long time - since 2006. In 2011, Azerbaijan finally did build a wall of 700 meters length and of 3 meters height on the neighboring villages of Martakert region.

The Armenian side, anyway, does not respond to such statements about the construction of the wall on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border. "That's their business, if they want to strengthen their borders, then let them alone." In an interview with "Armedia" IAA said the spokesman for the Armenian Defense Ministry, Artsrun Hovhannisyan. As for the NKR Defense Ministry spokesman Senor Asatryan, he totally agreed with Hovhannisyan.

It should be noted that this initiative of the Azerbaijani authorities, as well as many other initiatives, are obviously for propaganda, as the main violator of the ceasefire is Azerbaijan itself. With the announcement about the construction of a wall, the Azerbaijani side is trying to present the Armenian side to be guilty for violating the ceasefire. On the other hand, Baku's statements on the construction of the wall are directed towards the domestic audience as well: the official Baku can wash money under the pretext of building a protective wall.
