Saakashvili Threatens With New Revolution in Georgia
This weekend in Tbilisi on Rustaveli Avenue a rally of the opposition forces in Georgia will be held, lenta.ru reports. The organizer of the rally is the party of former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili United National Movement. And it is this fact that makes many people nervous: they fear that this rally has a potential to become a Georgian ''Maidan'' - with bloodshed and the coup attempt.
The official agenda of the demontsration is overcoming the economic crisis and developing measures to strengthen the national currency - lari.
Supporters of former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili announced about Tbilisi ''maidan'' for March 21 but the first blood has already been spilled. In Zugdidi (city in the west of the country) there was a fight between opponents of Saakashvili and his supporters. In addition to Zugdidi similar ''pre-maidan'' confrontations were recorded in Batumi. The situation in Tbilisi is also not that calm.
Georgian media disseminates sinister forecasts. The newspaper ''The Chronicle of the Week '' reported that up to 300 youths loyal to Saakashvili passed preparations for a month in Ukraine, gaining the experience of ''maidan'', on March 21 to organize in Tbilisi bloodshed and provoke unrest. According to the publication, the radicals in small groups have returned to Georgia. '' Except revolution, the ''nationals" cannot return to power in any other way. They understand that through elections they will not succeed '' - the newspaper said
In Georgia talks about "maidan" as the only way for the "nationalists" to change the ruling Georgian Dream party, is more than actual, as in spite of the fact that the party of Mikhail Saakashvili has a stable electorate, these are not the numbers, that would give it an opportunity to return to power via democratic means. Saakashvili’s party will be given maximum 20% of the votes of the people - as it was the case in 2013 presidential and 2014 local elections.
