PM Receives PACE Monitoring Committee Co-Rapporteurs
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan received co-rapporteurs of the Monitoring Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Yuliya Lovochkina and Andrej Šircelj, Co-Secretary of the PACE Monitoring Committee Alexis Salanson and Head of the CoE Office in Yerevan Natalia Voutova.
Appreciating the PACE Monitoring Process from the perspective of strengthening democracy in Armenia, the Prime Minister stressed the need for close co-operation with the Council of Europe. Nikol Pashinyan highly valued the PACE observer mission’s active participation in Armenia’s preterm parliamentary elections.
Touching upon his government’s priorities, the Premier highlighted the reforms aimed at fighting corruption, building an independent judicial system, ensuring the rule of law, protecting human rights, modernizing the governance system, and improving the Electoral Code.
The co-rapporteurs congratulated Nikol Pashinian on holding high-level democratic elections and went on to underline that the polls fully reflected the citizens’ will. They expressed confidence that the Government’s ambitious and comprehensive reform agenda would give new impetus to the development and strengthening of democracy in our country.
The interlocutors attached importance to cooperation and active dialogue in the aforementioned areas. Highlighting the ongoing cooperation with the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Nikol Pashinyan noted that as a journalist, politician and political prisoner, he had been engaged in effective cooperation with PACE partners for many years.
At the co-rapporteurs’ request, Nikol Pashinyan referred to the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and other issues of regional importance.
