Israel Expands Gaza Fishing Zone As Part of Ceasefire Agreement
Israel has expanded the permitted fishing zone in the besieged Gaza Strip as part of a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, the group that governs the enclave, Aljazeera reports.
The Egyptian-brokered deal includes expanding the fishing limit along the Mediterranean coast from six to 15 nautical miles for the first time in years, with the purpose of boosting Gaza's economy that is heavily reliant on the fishing sector.
Expansions occasionally occur and usually last for only three months at a time.
