Armenian FM Meets with Acting Assistant Secretary of U.S. State’s Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs
On June 19, within the framework of his working visit to Washington D.C., Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan met with Philip Reeker, the U.S. Acting Assistant Secretary of State for the European and Eurasian Affairs. George Kent, the U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State, Andrew Schofer, the U.S. Co-Chair for the OSCE Minsk Group and Varuzhan Nersesyan, Ambassador of Armenia to the U.S. participated in the meeting.
The interlocutors discussed a wide range of issues of the Armenia-U.S. partnership and underscored the mutual readiness to further broaden and enrich the agenda of multifaceted cooperation.
Touching upon the first session of the Armenia -U.S. Strategic Dialogue held in Yerevan this May, Foreign Minister of Armenia welcomed the format and representative level of the meeting and reiterated the commitment of the Armenian side to implement the agreements reached during that meeting.
According to the Minister, the Armenian-U.S. Strategic Dialogue, which covers many spheres of cooperation: science, education, energy, trade, economy, high technology and innovation, tourism and others, also contributes to the advancement of reforms agenda in Armenia, including through the implementation of targeted programs.
Minister Mnatsakanyan presented to his interlocutor a broad agenda of reforms being implemented by the Government of Armenia highlighting the priority spheres of judiciary and the police. Within this context, Minister Mnatsakanyan particularly valued the importance of coordination of the support of different international partners to ensure the sustainability and efficiency of reforms.
During the meeting the sides exchanged views on a number of international and regional issues.
Ahead of the meeting between the Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan to be held in Washington on June 20, the interlocutors touched upon the efforts being undertaken towards the peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict under the auspices of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairmanship.
