It Would Be Funny, If Aliyev Received Less Votes: Anzhela Elibegova
The presidential elections in Azerbaijan as such were not held, everything was staged, predetermined. This was declared by Anzhela Elibegova, an expert on Azerbaijani issues, at Armenpress press center. According to her it was expected that Aliyev would receive 86 percent of votes.
"This outcome was predictable, it would be funny if Aliyev received lower. In the absence of absolute competition, the presidential elections in Azerbaijan turned into a fake referendum. As for the opponents, all were absolutely non-serious ones," Anzhela Elibegova said.
According to her, by changing the day of elections Aliyev managed to achieve his goal with right calculations. Particularly, with the change of the day, the opposition was deprived of the opportunity to come together and prepare for it. If otherwise the opposition could create real problems for Aliyev, then it was deprived of the opportunity, when the day of the elections was changed. Anzhela Elibegova noted that the opposition held two formal protests, which did not solve any issue.
"One of the reasons for the change in the Election Day was domestic issues. There was some tension and problems would be created for Aliyev during the autumn elections. Now it is said that Aliyev will make changes in the system. He plans to fire the staff that remained from his father's times and bring young professionals," he said.
