Criminal Case Launched Into Assassination Attempt Against Former Karabakh Top Commander
The law enforcement authorities have instituted a criminal case into a reported assassination attempt against Lieutenant General Jalal Harutyunyan, a former commander of the Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh) Defense Army, Tert.am reports.
Speaking to Tert.am, Arevik Khachatryan, a spokeswoman for the Prosecutor General's Office, said an inquest is now under way as part the proceeding launched under the Criminal Code of Armenia (attempted murder against two or more individuals, and willful destruction or spoilage of property.).
Harutyunyan was relieved of his duties on October 27 after reports emerged that he had sustained gunshot wounds in frontline military positions. He was subsequently honored with the highest presidential title of Artsakh Hero for exceptional services, courage and personal bravery demonstrated in the fatherland defense operations during the war.
