The European Union Critisized Turkey for Controversial Security Bill
The European Union has criticized Turkey for adopting the controversial security bill. In a reply to Today's Zaman request, spokesperson for EU Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Maja Kocijancic said that though the bill is adopted for the sake of the security of its citizens, it should also correspond "to universal fundamental rights and freedoms and European standards."
As Today's Zaman reports, Kocijancic has stated that the European Commission "has not been consulted on the adopted provisions of the domestic security package."
She stessed that the EU and if possible, the Council of Europe should be engaged in the process to ensure the implementation of this legislation in line with European standards and best practices.
