Russia Refused to Blame Bosnian Serbs for "Genocide"

Russia became the only UN security member to veto a British-drafted United Nations resolution condemning the  1995 Srebrencia massacre as a “crime of genocide” amid acrimonious exchanges on the eve of the 20th anniversary of the slaughter of 8,000 Bosnian Muslim men and boys, the Telegraph reports.

The British Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond condemned the veto of Russia noting:

"The failure to adopt this resolution is a snub to the families of the victims and the survivors of Srebrenica. True reconciliation requires facing up to the realities of the past by all sides and determination to learn the lessons for the future.”

In response Vitaly Churkin, Moscow’s ambassador, criticised the British wording as "confrontational and politically-motivated", arguing that it unfairly singled out Bosnian Serbs for committing war crimes in a conflict in which all three ethnic groups were the victims of atrocities.
