RA Political and Public Figures Call the Citizens to Participate in the Referendum Irrespective of Their Position
Taking into consideration the fact that in two days referendum on Constitutional changes will take place in Armenia, "Armedia" IAA has tried to find out the position of some political and public figures on the participation of the citizens in the referendum.
In an answer to the question why RA citizens should participate in December 6 referendum, radio broadcaster Egor Glumov said that citizens should participate in the referendum, as their voice is first of all important for them, so as they do not say that their voice has been used.
"Today it is very easy to criticize the government, but we should not forget that even if we have not elected the authorities, then we have silently allowed others elect for us," Glumov said stressing that "people do not have the right to criticize something if they have not done anything against it."
"That’s why you should go and express your position, later on not to say that someone else has voted for you," he mentioned.
According to the head of Hakob Paronyan State Musical Comedy Theatre, Yervand Ghazanchyan participation to the referendum should not even be discussed.
"RA citizens should participate is every referendum, not only on December 6 and it is the citizens, who should decide what to say," Ghazanchyan mentioned.
In a talk with "Armedia" IAA Ghazanchyan noted with regret that in the context of the referendum on constitutional amendments, those amendments have been forgotten. "Those, who say "No" or "Yes" do not understand why they have such position. The referendum unwillingly became a sport interest."
"If there is some problem in the theater, then I'm there, I see my share of guilt, but many do not see that for the problems existing in the country" the head of the theatre said, adding that he believes that the "yes" vote would win, because "people are waiting for a change." He also called people not to transfer their personal problems into politics, taking into consideration the current geopolitical conditions, when "the war is not over, and there is a tension in Russian-Turkish relations."
According to singer Arthur Ispirian not taking part in the referendum will not solve questions, "we need to have some guidance, it should be known."
"All citizens should participate in elections and referendums, because their voice have value in our country, it is a must. By not participating or boycotting, citizens will not achieve anything," the singer told "Armedia" IAA.
The Chairman of the Public Council's Commission on Civil Society Consolidation Affairs Hovhannes Hovhannisyan in his turn said that "the participation of December 6 referendum on the constitutional changes is the citizen's right to determine its own destiny and duty, which is to be carried out."
