Turkey Solves Its Domestic and Foreign Problems Very Carefully

spiegel.de

Turkey is carrying out a targeted work both with the EU and its Member States to solve its domestic and foreign problems. Using its playing card, that is as if helping the EU with the migrant crisis, it has been able to make the EU "work" for it.

This time Turkey voiced its expectations from Belgium. During the meeting with his counterpart, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu declared that in exchange of meeting Belgium’s expectations on issues concerning foreign militants, the country in its turn should help in fighting against the PKK and other groups outlawed by Turkey.

"In our bilateral meetings, we tried to explain [to the Belgian counterparts] how the PKK and the DHKP/C are working together, the latest terror acts in Turkey and the relationship among the PKK, PYD and YPG," Çavuşoğlu said, Hurriyet reports.

The answer to this suggestion or better to say demand was that more information is needed on the issue. This at least gives hopes that Belgium will weight its gains and losses when giving answer to joining the fight against the PKK or not. Taking into consideration the fact that Turks are the second largest group in Belgium and this is one of the main components of bilateral cooperation, Belgium could have yielded to Turkey’s demand, as Merkel does now.

On March 10 once again she reiterated that if the EU wants a real solution, it needs to agree a deal with Turkey. Moreover, she claims that the unilateral decision of Balkans for closing the routes for migrants causes  oncerns.

"You don’t resolve the problem by taking a unilateral decision," Merkel told public radio MDR, Hurriyet reports.

The EU is really in a bad situation and it needs to solve the problem with migrants as soon as possible. However, in such a difficult situation it has as if lost its pragmatism. Is it sure that the money given to Turkey will serve its purpose? Doesn't the EU see what policy Turkey carries out towards the Kurds?
