US Senator: Azerbaijani Government Makes the US Take Certain Measures

An influential US senator, Republican John McCain, in an interview with the Azerbaijani service of "Voice of America" called on Baku to release the journalist Khadija Ismailova, threatening otherwise to take measures against the authorities of Azerbaijan, contact.az reports.
According to the senator, the arrest of Khadija goes beyond one person and covers a much wider range of issues. "Arresting Khadija, the government is fighting against democracy and freedom of the press, showing what happens for such activities. In that way, it is not only the story of Khadija, but an evidence of the necessity of reform," the senator said.
