Human Rights Watch: Azerbaijan Continues to Pursue Government Critics

Despite the release of many prisoners earlier this year, Azerbaijan has resumed its "vicious practice of persecution of critics of the government and independent organizations," according to a new report by Human Rights Watch, reports Voice of America.

The optimism quickly dissipated as the government relentlessly pursues critics trying to close independent organizations.

The document was published on Thursday containing information obtained on the basis of more than 90 interviews with the arrested political activists, journalists and others with criminal and administrative charges that human rights activists believe are false and politically motivated.
