Belgian Minister Fined for Refusing to Let Refugees In
Left.gr
Minister for Migration of Belgium, Theo Franken is threatened by confiscation of property due to his persistent refusal to grant asylum to a Syrian family in the country. Earlier, three judicial authorities confirmed that the family from Aleppo deserves asylum, but Franken ignored the courts' decision.
According to the BBC, the court fined Franken with 4450 dollars per day for failure to provide asylum to family from Aleppo, who have relatives in Belgium.
Franken ignored the decision of the court deliberately: he had previously stated that family ties with Belgium were not obvious enough and he will not give the family shelter because it "opens the door to chaos migration".
